Position Summary:

The Test Technician position entails performing engineering tests, in accordance with guidelines and instructions from Test & Product Engineering; &/or able to take on assignments independently with little to no direct instruction from start to finish while consulting with the requestor initially and provides regular updates to management and requestor. It engages in the application of electronic or other data recording devices to acquire and measure data in many areas of stress, vibration, fatigue, noise level, loads, temperatures, pressures, flow rates and other test scenarios.Additionally, the position includes providing hands-on mechanic or shop duties during the various vehicle builds, as needed.This position requires the ability to assure continued testing without loss of part, assembly integrity or test schedule timing, and it requires a dedication and understanding of technical and engineering concepts relating to vehicle engineering problems.


  • Assist the Product Engineer in defining test parameters, a full scope of project assignment(s).

  • Set-up test equipment, including instrumenting vehicles, including replacing vehicle hardware with similar hoses, lines or tubes with instrumentation bosses, unions, etc for vehicle(s) or test bucks.

  • Instrument, records and acquire test data for systems/subsystems/components, with little to no errors in the collection and storing test data with appropriate file names for each data set for retrieval during &/or following the testing.

  • Analyzes and reduces test data for test reports, and extrapolating test data as needed

  • Jointly with engineering, assist in interpret test data to draw hypothesis or conclusions from test notes, as required

  • Maintaining detailed test notes on test issues, anomalies, general test conditions, environmental conditions, etc to reference during the data reductions, etc

  • Good to excellent housekeeping skills in and around the test environment or lab, including test data filing system

  • Assist &/or prepares a summary report on test results or complete formal/informal test report.

  • Experience in assisting &/or preparing SAE or military specifications test certification documentation

  • Proficient at maintaining test equipment calibration records, including obtaining quotes for recalibrating test equipment, all in advance of equipment becoming delinquent

  • Ability to use GAGETrak, or like equipment tracking system to keep track of test equipment used for different test projects.

  • Assist in obtaining quotes for test equipment or instrumentation, as necessary

  • Assist in developing and assembling test bucks and test apparatus

  • Knowledgeable in Chassis and Engine Dynamometer operation, stress coat and strain gauge application, transducer, thermocouple installation and various other data recording devices, computers and methods

  • And other duties as assigned, such as supporting vehicle builds on the shop floor, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Self-starter with the ability to multitask and function autonomously, as required

  • Good verbal and written communication

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, that includes instrumenting test systems/subsystems/components, reducing, analyzing test data and creating reports &/or presentations

  • Technical Skill Set (specific technical skills):

  • Ability to derive System, Subsystem/Component Level Requirements

  • Familiar with TeamTrack applications PIM and DTS; including TeamCenter Vis Mock-up

  • Experienced with VDLS government system (i.e., TIRs and test data)

  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills, including MS Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles &/or military systems, in order to assist or support the build/assembly of military vehicles

  • Associates or Bachelor degree in vehicle dynamics, electrical or automotive technologies

  • Trade school certificate in electronics or automotive test technologies

  • 3-5 years experience required; 10-15 desired

Physical Effort:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to speak or listen.

  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus

Working Conditions:

  • This job operates in a professional shop or testlab environment predominately, but occasionally involves an office environment.

  • This role routine uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers/scanning, fax machines, and file cabinets.

  • Moreover, this job engages in testing products which means there are time where testing is local or away from TEC AH facility which can be a couple days to multiple consecutive weeks

  • The test environment involves operating in different ambient temperature conditions from extreme heat (125 deg F or more) to extreme cold (-50 deg F) weather conditions including occasional deep water fording testing

  • This role routine uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and copy, fax and scanning machines.

  • Ability to be mobile and work in & around office environment within the engineering research and development facility; including the prototype build; test labs; and AMG manufacturing facility, when necessary
