This position maintains The Salvation Army fleet in safe operational condition, including repair of all motorized equipment, service calls to the field, and record keeping of all maintenance and repairs.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Repair all motorized equipment, including making service calls to the field when practical to avoid towing expenses.

  • Prioritize the care of tracks and other motor vehicles and trailers. Report to supervisor any mechnical problems and seek recommentation and approval for any work necessary.

  • Report evidence of excess damage or abuse of equipment by drivers to supervisor.

  • Perform service and keep accurate records on each truck/vehicle/trailer (i.e. oil changes, lube, repair, tire rotation, etc.)

  • Check trailers for needed repairs as soon as they are pulled in to ensure trailer is ready for use when unloaded.

  • Check and top off all fluid levels and check tires for wear for trucks and fork lifts at the start of each work day.

  • When necessary, drive dump truck, forklift, and assist in picking up donations (route tickets and specials).

  • Maintain proper care and security of equipment, tools, and parts. Secure and lock work area when not present.

  • Control work area so that no unofficial vehicles are repaired on premesis and on company time. Ensure vehicles are not taken for use for other than Salvation Army business.

  • Take reports on need for repairs from all drivers; commence work only upon instruction and approval of supervisor.

  • Must be available for a flexible schedule; full-time or part-time positions will require evening, weekend, and holiday hours. In emergencies, be able to work overtime and/or start work early to complete necessary repairs.

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Experience :

High School Degree or equivelent, or currently pursuing. Two years of mechanic experience with both gasoline and diesel engines preferred.

Certifications :

Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive in accordance with the Salvation Army policy.

Skills/Abilities :

Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with customers, management and coworkers.

Basic computer skills including but not limited to the use of the payroll program and all other programs or systems that are adopted by the TSA ARC.

Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Working Conditions :

The work environment for this position is a backroom store or warehouse environment with a low to moderate noise level. The environment may be dusty and may experience temperature fluctuations based on weather.
