Apparatus Solutions Mechanical Maintenance Technician in Detroit, Michigan

The M-1 Rail, a non-profit organization, formed in 2007 to lead the design, construction, and operation of the QLine Detroit, is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to perform complex troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance for rail transit streetcars.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests and assessments of rail equipment and infrastructure systems; making necessary repairs

  • Utilizes test equipment, wiring diagrams, and drawings to support equipment maintenance inspections and repairs

  • Troubleshoots complex mechanical systems

  • Working knowledge of test equipment

  • Respond quickly to all service requests and efficiently troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems

  • Communicate estimated timelines for repairs to those impacted

  • Perform preventative maintenance on a regular schedule, including vehicle rescues

  • Log all services and report progress to management

  • Utilize and stores all equipment properly

  • Adheres to all safety and security practices

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Associate degree in mechanical engineering/ technology preferred

  • Valid Driver license (Ability to qualify for a CDL A (within 90 days)

  • 2+ years of experience working as a mechanical technician

  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance and repair of rail equipment

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Willing to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings/manuals

  • Proficient with manual and power tools

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

  • Shift work is required

  • Must be able to pass all DOT physical requirements
