Location/Division Specific Information

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the assignment and coordination of daily workflow for the manufacture of culture media products in the Detroit plant. Will oversee the manufacturing operations in the Peptone Manufacturing function. Must understand equipment, processes, and procedures related to product manufacture. May be required to rotate shifts.

By developing a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Production Operation. This will be accomplished by providing strong leadership and training that focuses the team on safety, compliance with quality requirements, internal and external customer support, robust inventory control procedures, and the development of standard work and a robust 5S program to improve productivity throughout the operation.

What will you do?

  • Assure the health and safety of all colleagues.

  • Assures that all follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, and SOPs.

  • Conduct safety incident reporting & corrective action responses utilizing EHS database.

  • Complete accurate and timely ERP production activity transactions.

  • Direct work activities of the employees in the Peptone Manufacturing Department.

  • Coordinate in-process, qualification, and final assay testing.

  • Coordinate experimental and small batch samples.

  • Coordinate planning and production activity control.

  • Coordinate daily qualification testing of department pH meters and other instruments.

  • Maintain a shift log which will provide direct written communication to the subsequent shifts pertaining to special instructions or information.

  • Make routine rounds of the entire facility to ensure production standards are met.

  • Administers performance corrective actions.

  • Actively contribute to Lean, 5S, and Continuous Improvement efforts within the Production area.

  • Assure facility is maintained in a clean, dry and tour ready state.

  • Maintain departmental Key Performance Indicator metrics.

  • Train and document new associates or current associates in new skills or retraining, to include Safety, Quality, SOPs, and PMs.

  • Review and maintain accurate quality records as they relate to production, cleaning, and preventative maintenance activities as they relate to the production operation.

  • Active contribution to resolving unplanned deviations. This includes real time documentation and root cause analysis.

  • Enter maintenance requests in Centralized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). How will you get here? Education and Experience

  • BA or BS degree (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.

  • Experience in a GMP / ISO production environment and union leadership are preferred.

  • Experience in Oracle (ERP) and Maximo (CMMS) are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Understanding and working knowledge of production functions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and ERP systems.

  • Must demonstrate customer focus, action/results orientation, verbal/written communications, and the ability to seek input and feedback from others.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and independent decision-making skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to determine root cause and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
