9061BRMid-Level:GREAT LAKES WORKSWork Location:GREAT LAKES WORKSJob Description:United States Steel is looking for a Shift Manager – Level 1 Engineer, that will be responsible for applying engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve operational conditions and improve reliability. In addition, this role will supervise, direct, and coordinate efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment to maximize operating efficiencies and improve reliability. Apply electrical engineering and computer principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve control and operational conditions and improve reliability. Design, develop, maintain and troubleshoot control systems. Interact with, and direct the unionized electrical maintenance forces for the Steelmaking area as they support electrical process control maintenance and repair activities on BOP and Caster. Assist MTEs in programming and diagnosing malfunctions in process control PLC’s and associated machinery and equipment. Work closely with and coordinate the activities of contract employees and outside technical support personnel. Manage Process Control projects. Lead and ensure safety, quality and environmental activities and compliance of electrical maintenance technicians in support of the BOP and Caster. Assist production units in reaching safety, quality, delay and yield goals/targets. Interpret documentation, specifications, schematics, blueprints, job orders, SJPs and ECPs. Develop and maintain proper inventories of required spares to maintain stable and reliable control systems. Devise and implement cost saving strategies. Perform administrative duties such as ordering parts, completing reports, conducting safety meetings and conversations.
Minimum requirements: Bachelors, or Associates degree. Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Computer Science preferred. 6-8 years of computer process controls is preferred. Experience directing and supervising a unionized maintenance technicians. Must be able to work shifts, extended workdays, weekends and holidays.
