Nestle Quality by Design Manager in Fremont, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality by Design Manager promotes a strong safety and quality culture within the immediate and extended Nestlé team environment. This individual is the Market contact for Ingredient and Packaging specifications and is responsible for Ingredient and Packaging material Supplier approval. This role liaises with subject matter experts in the Nestle Development Center, Global Quality management, Procurement, Regulatory Affairs and Supplier Development to name a few.

The Quality by Design Manager is also the guardian of Nestle Nutrition ingredient portfolio and uses systems like the Compliance Assessment Tool to assure Nutritional and Contaminant compliance from product inception. For instances where compliance is not immediately available, this role is responsible to work with subject matter experts to develop and maintain roadmaps to ensure eventual compliance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ways of working

*Works with Product Developers to ensure development, alignment and implementation of new ingredients per Nestle Standards for all Gerber Innovation and Renovation projects. Works with Supply Chain Logistics team to notify export markets of ingredient/product changes. Works with Procurement on approving alternate vendors to ensure supply for internal factories and Co-Manufacturing partners

*Defines and updates the specific quality procedures, instructions and tools, which are directly related to Material & Recipe Management (MRM) functions, ingredient specifications and supplier approval programs. Ensures appropriate definition, usage, content, implementation and business rules for specifications are understood and applied across the market to bring consistency and transparency

*Provides technical support and training on new or existing ingredients, recipe management and MOC's (management of change)

*Ensures recipe compliance to all internal and external standards. Supports the development of action plans/roadmaps or derogation requests for deviations to Internal standards

Ingredient management

*Guardian of Nestle Nutrition/Gerber ingredient portfolio. Leads raw material approval process and maintains raw material specifications in various management systems. Incorporates information based on qualification testing data and/or routine testing data

*Support exceptional releases for raw materials and conditional approval requests with Technical Applications, Procurement and Factories and support /drive close out of follow-up actions

*Supports vendor approval process (VAM, on boarding, risk assessment, QIR process)

*Leads improvement initiatives for ingredient, vendor management and qualification related topics driving quality changes locally within vendor organizations to improve vendor quality compliance

*Manages market driven ingredient/supplier qualifications including arranging audits for new vendors

*Conducts/Assists in supplier audits for new vendors or per annual supplier audit requests

Quality & compliance

*Supports Technical Applications driven projects on the Quality assessment in order to anticipate as early as possible any issue as well as perform root cause analysis and define actions

*As guardian of compliance in finished product, reviews non-compliances and develops action plans to proactively improve right the first-time results

*Works with Product Development, Market QA, Factory Operations and Procurement to develop contaminant roadmaps (corrective action plans) for any internal non-compliances

*Inter-Market Supply-Prepares market roll out recipes and works with Regulatory Affairs and producing market Technical Application Groups to ensure compliance to local market regulations. Answers technical questions about US recipes and ingredients for International markets for local product registrations

*Supports viability assessments of new potential Co-Manufacturing sites. Aids in developing action plans to ensure that new co-manufacturers can meet Nestle Nutrition/Gerber standards

*Lead MOC coordination for all Co-Manufacturing sites to ensure on-going compliance to recipes and product specifications

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

*Bachelor's degree required (preferred Microbiology, Chemistry or Food Science degrees)

*Good knowledge of FDA food and / or drug Good Manufacturing Practice regulations

EXPERIENCE:

*Minimum of 8 years of related food industry technical experience (R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Food Safety Functions), including 3 or more years with specific ingredient experience including IT systems used to manage ingredients (SAP, specifications, QMS, HACCP, vendor audit management, etc.)

SKILLS:

*The individual must be computer literate

*Well organized

*Able to communicate with vendors and corporate contacts

*Detail oriented

*Ability to convert theoretical knowledge into practical application

*Possess good persuasion and consensus building skills
