Description
Primary Function: This position is responsible for leading the Engineering function for the company, directing all engineering services to support all functions and facilities in the Company, achieving optimal cost effectiveness and process efficiencies. This is a hands-on role in the field, working across manufacturing and distribution center operations and farms. This position supervises project engineering managers and other support personnel.

Lead the Engineering function across complex projects, delivering results on plan
Lead, coach, and develop a team of three to ten Engineering and/or CI professionals
Evaluate, determine, and propose future facility layouts and design (including equipment, technologies, and automation to improve productivity, operational efficiencies, yield, quality, safety, utilities, and sustainability
Work collaboratively to develop and manage the capital budget and plan for the Supply Chain (End-to-End) by working directly with various operational leaders as well as leading corporate driven projects
Prioritize and assign engineering projects, with on-time completion within budget, toward achieving company goals
Provide direct support for Company farms and guidance for Growing partners
Ensure that employee safety and health, food safety, food quality, and sustainability are appropriately engineered into every project
Work with appropriate functional areas to achieve company goals related to the Engineering Function
Report on engineering variances and adjust projects as needed
Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; manage employee performance; address issues and resolve problems
Education/Background Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering required
Progressive experience related to the role with 10+ years of job-related experience required
Food or Refrigerated industry engineering experience preferred
Experience in vendor/contractor management and strategic sourcing across mechanical, plumbing, process, HVAC, refrigeration, building, electrical, and general construction management, driving both facility maintenance engineering projects as well as productivity projects
Experience leading PLC and Controls Automation
Experience working in a collaborative environment, utilizing value engineering approaches, and working in environment with a Continuous Improvement mindset
PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred
Six-sigma Green Belt preferred Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to operate all information technology related business systems, programs and applications in a manner that achieves efficiency, accuracy, and relevancy of information processing and reporting as it applies to this position
Ability to read and interpret documents relating to process operations
Ability to understand production terminology and government regulations
Ability to speak effectively to management and vendors concerning production service improvement issues
Ability to develop written reports and budgets
Ability to perform calculations and provide advice relating to the application of mathematics to production process improvement
Ability to apply concepts of engineering
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines
Ability to understand related engineering and processing concepts and have project management skills to lead multiple projects at one time, while making sound business decisions
Ability to drive a motor vehicle and maintaining a valid driver’s license Working Conditions:
Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, sit; to verbally communicate; and to hear
Occasionally required (up to 33% of the time) to walk and stand
Occasionally (up to 33% of the time) lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts
Regularly work in outdoor weather conditions, in high, precarious places and in non-weather-related cold/refrigerated environment
Personal protective equipment may be required to be worn when in operations environment, such as hearing protection, protective footwear, and other PPE as appropriate
