Cosma International Robotic Weld Technician in Lyon Township, Michigan

The Robotic Weld Technician is responsible and accountable for the welding process on his/her shift. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, inspecting/testing, troubleshooting, find and fix parameter audits, corrective action, process improvement and training for all welding processes. The Robotic Weld Technician ensures that the welding is done in accordance with customer weld specifications and the control plan using assigned equipment/machinery in any of the division’s welding departments.
We have positions open on all 3 shifts. Pay range for this position starts at $25.36 per hour and tops at $32.97 per hour, plus shift premium and OT if applicable.
Troubleshoot and repair problems on plant facilities and production equipment in regards to welding. Meaning (GMAW, GMAB, Spot, DAS, GTAW)
Service, maintain, repair, install and test new or existing equipment and verify conformance to specifications. (Robot/Welding)
Complete repairs, modifications and installations as required.
Perform inspections including cut, polish and etch as well as verify inspected work and maintained records conform to applicable standards and customer requirements
Maintain customer required weld documentation and action plans for improvements or corrections
Provide plant support in troubleshooting of process problems and completes quality improvements as required to maintain part standards of quality. Establish cross functional team for reliability issues
Deal extensively with production team and other support groups as well as vendors (both parts suppliers and equipment suppliers).
Assists engineering in APQP process
Department support for testing, repairing and calibrating electric or electronic components. Validates reliability issues with components and investigates repeat component failures.
Enter all breakdown details into the Maintenance PM database by end of shift
Carries out preventative maintenance procedures as laid out by CBAM and the manufacturer’s specifications.
Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities; repairs and systems improvements (optimization). Documents improvements and analysis data, ensure swift and effective implementation.
Analyze, record and chart documentation required for maintenance records and projects. Establishes benchmarks and shares improvement opportunities with department Shift Leader.
Establish and follow-up full project implementation including timing, concept, feasibility, design, specifications, construction and commissioning.
Prepare drawings, material specifications to requisition as required by vendors or other departments.
Assist in developing and maintaining preventative/predictive maintenance procedures.
Support or conduct training for and implementation of cross-functional repairs to equipment that includes robot and welding. provided that it can be done safely.
Takes part in the continuous improvement process to improve productivity and quality (provides suggestions at team meetings, understands losses and gives ideas/solutions, participates in trials/experiments, volunteers on committee or focus group activities, etc.) and focuses on solutions.
Attends departmental and plant-wide communication meetings as scheduled.
Attends training as scheduled.
Complies with, supports and models CBAM’s operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, and Magna’s Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).

Knowledge and Education
Completion of an Robotics/Electrical/Electronic/ Welding Engineering program from a community or recognized college program consisting of two years or more is required. Experience / working knowledge in robotic mig and resistance welding. Experience with destructive and non-destructive testing. Knowledge of PLC's and their capabilities. Knowledge of different types of welding (i.e. resistance, drawn arc, MIG, TIG, ARC, braze, solder). Knowledge of different weld controllers (i.e. WTC, Bosch, MEDAR). Sound technical understanding of weld quality standards including weld appearance and weld location - GMAW, RW-S, RW-P.
Skills and Competencies
Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
Ability to perform weld technology tasks (weld adjustments, spot adjustments, DAS adjustments)
Advance Knowledge of welding and/or Fanuc controls
Experience in advanced robot automation programming and troubleshooting skills are required.

Capable in necessary computer use and computer software to perform job
Must be available to work the off shift, overtime and weekends based on customer demand.
Under the general direction of the Weld Manager, the Robotic Weld Technician works independently and confers regularly. Travel, on rare occasions, may be required with occasional overnight accommodation at various locations. Overtime may be required to meet production expectations. The Weld Technician may be exposed to elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant. Ability to obtain and retain a valid passport is required.
