Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy. We currently have an opportunity for a Welder at our Marinette, Wisconsin location. POSITION SUMMARY General assembly of steel or aluminum ships through welding or tack welding using electric, gas, arc and other welding equipment. Determines proper equipment to be used; inspects, tests, and repairs work pieces accordingly. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. Welds or fuses metal parts together using TIG, MIG, SAW, and SMAW welding equipment. Connects hoses from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel/shielding gas, and turns valves to release mixture. Ignites torch and regulates flow of gas and air to obtain desired temperature, size, and color of flame. Preheats work pieces preparatory to welding or bending, using torch or other heating elements. Examines work piece for defects and measures work piece with straightedge or template to ensure conformance with specifications. Climbs ladders or works on scaffolds to assemble structures. Signals crane operator to move large work pieces. Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torch or plasma-arc equipment. Positions and secures parts, using hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, or hand tools. Selects, positions, and secures torch, cutting tips, or welding rod, according to type, thickness, area, and desired temperature of metal. Guides and directs flame or electrodes on or across work piece to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work at heights.Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.Must be available to work all 3 shifts as required.Must be able to lift 50lbs.Must be able to work in confined or enclosed spaces. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.Weld Certificate from technical school preferred. (This requirement can also be met with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.)Must be 18 years of ageMust be a U.S. person Skills: Must have experience setting up, troubleshooting, and utilizing weld machines.Must have experience laying out and measuring utilizing the metric system.Must have experience working with blueprints.Must have experience working with hand tools.Must have experience working with overhead cranes to include safe rigging of equipment to be lifted.
