The Materials Group Leader for 2nd Shift is an active team

member in leading material project improvements, inventory accuracies, and the

management of excess and obsolete inventory. This position is responsible

for supervising fork truck drivers, shipping & receiving docks, and DOT

personnel. They are responsible for material related

initiatives such as returnable packaging implementations and or inter-plant

material flow initiatives. They are responsible for developing, implementing,

and guiding the roll out of key metrics for the materials department as well as

lead blitzes, continuous improvement initiatives, and cost reduction strategies

with external teams such as freight spend reduction, MRO efficiency

optimization, and 5S programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be


  • Lead the tactical execution of the annual physical inventory

  • Design and enhance the flows of inventory items from both internal and external customers.

  • Lead all material flow strategic projects to include returnable implementation, freight reductions, etc.

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining the use of department metrics and other associated lean initiatives

  • Lead accident investigations, audits, and inventory controls for binning and negatives

  • Maintain proactive shortage identification and management - help flag root causes & corrective actions.

  • Identify total cost and cash flow opportunities within the materials department.

  • Design and establish best practice for material replenishment to the lines

  • May lead and direct others to accomplish desired organizational objectives.

  • Lead material flow designs for new product integrations

  • Manage all materials moves, warehouse, and outside racks or storage

  • Lead training on SAP processes to include manufacturing disciplines to complete transactions.

  • Analyze material and capacity constraints and seek out solutions to improve value stream flow.

  • Interface with required functional groups to resolve challenging delivery requirements.

  • Work with engineering and quality to put together plans for phase in/phase out and ECN impacts

  • Manage blocked inventory and MRB cage

  • Productivity: identify and implement cost reduction/productivity projects to meet the corporate initiatives/goals.

  • Maintain pipeline and financial records for reporting and tracking productivity.


Experience and Skills Required:

  • BA/BS degree or 5+ years minimum materials experience to include 2+ years as a supervisor.

  • APICS (CPIM) or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Considerable knowledge of industry related supply base.

  • Skilled in production and supplier scheduling.

  • Able to provide direction and training to peers as needed.

  • Computer proficient with ERP (SAP strongly preferred) and Microsoft Office applications

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with visual management systems.
