Job Description

Model-based Tool and Process Development Engineer is responsible for creating a core set of modeling tools using Agile software development processes that enables production code generation from models and model-based testing for embedded systems. This person works in tandem with our General Motors IT teams to deploy tooling solutions to a global user community. The position requires an individual that has a passion for tooling development, proficient knowledge of MathWorks modeling tools, and has the ability to learn and adapt to a wide variety of technical and customer needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain and improve tooling for:

  • Development of component models

  • Automatic code generation from models

  • Component based testing

  • Auto regression-based testing

  • Deploy tools that support the global engineering community

  • Engage with IT to ensure solutions are robust and meet IT standards

  • Develop and maintain materials to support the proper use of tools (process documentation, training materials, work instructions, etc.)

  • Provide support to users in engineering (troubleshoot tool issues, coach & mentor users, etc.)

  • Participate in the established forums for tool development using Agile software methodologies

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

  • 2+ years of related experience

  • Experience programming in Matlab (M-function programming)

  • Experience with Simulink and Stateflow simulation tools

  • Demonstrated ability working with high level languages (e.g. C, C++, C#, Java, etc.)

  • Knowledgeable about code-based and model-based test tools and processes

  • Proficient at debugging and resolving tools & process issues

  • Enjoys working with internal customers to solve tooling issues and problems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • Industry experience with Embedded Controls and Embedded Controls Software

  • Practiced with the use of Agile software development methods and processes

  • Experience with software design based on AUTOSAR standards

  • Familiarity with Perl scripting language and other scripting languages

  • Experience with automated software build processes

  • Tooling experience with the gcc compiler, gdb debugger, and Eclipse

  • Experience with one or more simulation tool (such as AMESim, GT-Power, Sabre)
