Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number T504032 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard. This is a Term T5 NTE 4 YRS position with potential to convert to permanent without competition Responsibilities This position is located at the MI 127th Wing, Civil Engineering Squadron, Operations and Maintenance Branch, Selfridge ANG Base. The primary purpose of this position is to provide full performance level work in constructing, installing, repairing and modifying metal, wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness, and performing the full range of painting, including surface preparation, blending and matching paints, and coating of various surfaces requiring fine finishes and decorative effects. Performs roofing repairs to a wide variety of roof types. Provides helper and intermediate level assistance to other trades assigned to the section to accomplish a team process orientated work effort. Participates in team effort to provide flood and mold mitigation as needed. 1. Plans and. lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities. 2. Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures. 3. Assists in repairing and installing roofs consisting of asphalt, tile, slate, roll roofing, felts, and shingles. 4. Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding and applying fillers and base coats. 5. Applies skilled methods and techniques in paint preparation and coating applications. 6. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. 7. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Term T5 NTE 4 YRS position with potential to convert to permanent without competition.
