Job Description
Supervise unionized skilled trades maintenance employees. Work involves the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment in an automotive assembly plant type environment. Work is of a technical nature and decisions are made within the limits of general procedures and specifications.
Responsible for diagnosis and correction of equipment malfunctions
Responsible for preventive maintenance
Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment
Meets schedule and quality requirements
Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements
Implements and enforces safety and housekeeping practices
Implements and enforces divisional and corporate policies
Has frequent contact with others outside the work group
Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job or project
Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand and meet needs
Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
Identifies and takes advantage of learning and continuous improvement opportunities
Supervises maintenance projects to ensure requirements are met

Qualifications
Basic Required:
High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings and determine course of action
Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts to effectively direct trades personnel
Working knowledge of mathematical concepts including trigonometry
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
Effective written and oral communication skills
Interpersonal skills appropriate to effectively direct trades personnel in a team environment
Ability to effectively utilize systems, software, and equipment in the GM IT environment
Ability to work any shift, weekends, and holidays as necessary to meet business requirements
Basic Preferred:
Prior experience supervising skilled trades or maintenance personnel preferred
Prior experience supervising personnel in a union environment preferred
Education and Training:
High school graduate required
Additional training such as that acquired in the first two years of college or technical school preferred
Technical degree (Bachelor or equivalent training/experience) preferred
Training in skilled trades area or equivalent technical training preferred
Completion of recommended Corporate training programs preferred
