Job Description

irst Line Supervisor in a Pre-Production Stamping & Body Shop Operation leading a medium size team of skilled hourly employees engaged in inspection, CMM and Scanning activities to support sheet metal stamping, NC machining, construction of pre-production tools, dies, fixtures and Body In White Assembly builds. Manufacturing processes include both manual and automated operations and requires a high level of independent judgment. Responsible for Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost & Environment metrics.

6th/7th level (promotional based upon experience)

Responsibilities

  • Trains, develops, assigns work to and evaluates employees

  • Plans and meets quality and schedule requirements

  • Gathers and analyzes technical data

  • Determine cause of supplier quality problems and coordinate/implement effective and timely resolutions

  • Monitor part qualification certification process

  • Function as Liaison between manufacturing team and quality team

  • Maintain required documentation and certification files

  • Assist in training new employees on Red Light Scanning and Polyworks.

  • Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards

  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements

  • Interprets and applies divisional and departmental policy

  • Implement, maintain and continuously improve the Global Manufacturing System on the shop floor.

  • Support Vehicle Dimensional Quality Managers with CMM & Scanner data and problem solving.

  • Full Body Side Scanning to assist in problem solving.

  • CMM Frame Validation

  • Provide Red X support

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead, coach and teach in a Team Environment

  • Knowledge of stamping, NC machining, Body In White Builds, CMM and laser cutting processes

  • Proficient in Polyworks and Red Light Scanning

  • Experience with the use of Coordinate Measuring Machines to obtain and analyze performance of builds to nominal specifications.

  • Ability to supervise hourly Skilled trades (Metal Model Makers) on the shop floor and direct tooling changes as required.

  • Very strong problem solving skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of CMM and PC-DMIS Software

  • Hands on experience in manufacturing and knowledge to build quality parts & BIW Bodies.

  • Proficient in print reading and interpretation in part measurement systems

  • Demonstrate knowledge of geometric design and tolerance and gage design and function

  • Strong metrology background in manufacturing processes

  • Proficiency in the use of vision systems to reduce dimensional variation.

  • Experience with the use of Coordinate Measuring Machines to obtain and analyze performance of builds to nominal specifications.

  • Thorough knowledge of tooling and manufacturing processes.

  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals

  • Ability to prioritize work with limited direction from direct Supervisor

  • High level of analytical ability to problem solve complex manufacturing problems

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Can – do attitude, work ethic and perseverance

  • High level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others.

  • Can work effectively with UAW skilled trades employees.

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic mechanical concepts

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
